The Chesapeake Police Department is set for an on-site reaccreditation assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) on March 3-4, 2025. This evaluation involves a thorough review by two trained assessors who will examine the department's policies, procedures, operations, administration, and support services to ensure they meet CALEA's national standards.

To maintain its accredited status, the Chesapeake Police Department must adhere to approximately 160 standards that encompass over 300 bulleted sub-standards. These standards are publicly accessible through CALEA's Law Enforcement Standards documentation.

As part of this process, CALEA has established a Public Comment Portal to gather feedback from the community regarding the police department’s performance in public safety services and community engagement. It is important to note that "CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes." Furthermore, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions made through this portal.

For more information about accreditation or to contact the City of Chesapeake, individuals can reach out at 306 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322 or call 757-382-2489.
