Keep Norfolk Beautiful and the City of Norfolk are introducing the first Live Green Norfolk festival, planned for May 3 at Lafayette Park. The event is intended to promote sustainability and environmental consciousness among community members.
The free event will feature activities, workshops, and entertainment aimed at inspiring individuals of various ages with eco-friendly practices. Interactive workshops will cover topics like urban gardening, composting, renewable energy, and upcycling. Children can participate in nature crafts, storytelling, and games in the Kids' Eco-Zone.
The event will include a community art project where attendees can create art using recycled materials alongside local artists. A Green Marketplace will host eco-friendly vendors that offer fresh food, handmade crafts, and sustainable goods. Food tastings will be provided by "Support & Feed".
Attendees can engage with sustainability experts and leaders from the City of Norfolk and the broader community in panel discussions about sustainability trends and initiatives. Additionally, eco-tours will guide participants through Lafayette Park’s sustainability features and eco-garden.
"Live Green Norfolk is more than just an event; it’s a movement to build a stronger, more connected community. By bringing together individuals, families, City departments and local organizations, the festival aims to create lasting bonds to inspire collective action toward a more sustainable future," the organizers stated.
Live Green Norfolk is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3500 Granby St. The event is free and open to all age groups. Updates can be found at www.norfolk.gov/livegreennorfolk and on social media via Facebook and Instagram @keepnorfolkbeautiful.
