Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, representing Virginia's 2nd district, recently addressed concerns on national shipbuilding and celebrated cultural events via social media. Kiggans, who began her congressional tenure in 2023 after serving in the Virginia Senate, has been vocal on issues relating to defense and community welfare.

On April 11, Kiggans took to social media to highlight the stagnation in naval ship numbers over the past two decades. "Right now, we have the same number of ships in the year 2025 that we had in 2003… we have decommissioned as many as we have built. That is simply unacceptable." She expressed her commitment to enhancing the shipbuilding and repair industry to ensure the Navy's readiness.

Later that day, Kiggans mentioned a new Executive Order from President Biden addressing shipbuilding. ".@POTUS’ new shipbuilding Executive Order places an important emphasis on both our national security and local economic growth in shipbuilding and ship repair hubs like #VA02. The bottom line is that we have been decommissioning more ships than we’re building, and it’s time to...” This highlights her support for initiatives that bolster both economic interests and national defense.

In a tweet posted on April 12, Kiggans extended festive wishes during a significant cultural event. "Wishing a joyful and meaningful Passover to all those celebrating in #VA02 and beyond! May this season bring you peace, love, and togetherness…!" Her tweet reflects her dedication to community engagement and cultural recognition.

Jen Kiggans currently serves as a congressional representative for Virginia’s 2nd District. Before this role, she was a member of the Virginia Senate and has a background in nursing, having graduated from Old Dominion University in 2011. Kiggans, 51, resides in Virginia Beach.
