City Manager Chris Price has presented his proposed budget to the City Council during a work session held on March 25. The budget documents are available on the Budget Department's homepage, and a video of the session will be posted later this week.

The budget reflects City Council priorities, which align with community priorities. The process involves voters electing City Council members who set major goals. The City Manager then collaborates with staff to achieve these goals through programs and initiatives within resource constraints, as outlined in the budget.

Public participation is crucial in the budget process. Opportunities for public input include an April 8 public hearing on the Real Estate Tax Rate at City Hall. Residents can speak by signing up before 6:30 p.m. either in Council Chambers or by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at 757-382-6151.

Another public hearing on the budget is scheduled for April 22 at City Hall, where residents can again sign up to speak before 6:30 p.m. by following the same procedure.

For more information about participating in City Council meetings, contact details are provided by the City of Chesapeake at their Cedar Road address or via phone.
