166 students were enrolled for 1st-grade in Southampton County schools in 2023-24 school year

There were 166 1st-grade students enrolled in Southampton County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 1.2% fewer than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of 1st-grade students in the county was Riverdale Elementary School.

Within Southampton County schools, the largest number of students were found in 10th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Southampton County ranked 85th in enrollment numbers. It was ranked 84th the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
