A sanitary sewer project will close westbound 19th Street near the intersection with North Birdneck Road starting on Monday, March 18.

Construction will occur at night to reduce the effect on traffic. Road closures will be in place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday. This work is expected to be completed by mid-May 2024.

Westbound traffic on 19th Street turning left onto North Birdneck Road will be detoured via Cypress Avenue and Virginia Beach Boulevard. Westbound traffic on 19th Street turning right onto North Birdneck Road will be detoured via Pavilion Drive. The two outside lanes of northbound North Birdneck Road near the intersection with 19th Street also will be closed during construction.

Warning signs will advise motorists of the utility work and detour routes. For more information, contact Alex Swafford with Virginia Beach Public Utilities at (757) 385-8248.
