NORFOLK, VA—The Slover Library Foundation, on behalf of the Brinkley Family Memorial Lecture Series, invites you to an engaging evening with acclaimed author Robert Gipe on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Slover Library (235 E. Plume St., Norfolk). Gipe will discuss his trilogy: "Weedeater," "Trampoline," and "Pop."
Gipe, a distinguished Appalachian author and storyteller, won the 2015 Weatherford Award for Outstanding Appalachian Novel for "Trampoline," and continued to captivate readers with "Weedeater" in 2018 and "Pop" in 2021, earning the esteemed Judy Gaines Young Book Award in 2021.
Beyond his writing accomplishments, Gipe is the founding producer of the Higher Ground Community performance series and has served as a script consultant for the Hulu series “Dopesick” and a producer on the feature film “The Evening Hour.” He hails from Harlan County, Kentucky, with deep roots in Kingsport, Tennessee.
This free event includes hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, and books will be available for purchase and signing. Online registration is encouraged.
