In a recent series of tweets, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who is serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 2nd district, discusses new legislative efforts addressing national security and healthcare challenges. Kiggans, who succeeded Elaine Luria in 2023 and has prior experience as a nurse practitioner, focuses on issues related to drone surveillance at defense sites and the nationwide shortage of nurses.

On April 21, 2025, Kiggans tweeted about increased suspicious unmanned aerial activity across the United States, including multiple drone sightings at bases in Hampton Roads over the past year. She introduced the bipartisan Drone Espionage Act to curb such activities. "We have had increased suspicious unmanned aerial activity across the country, and our bases here in Hampton Roads have had multiple drone sightings this past year. Last week, I introduced the bipartisan Drone Espionage Act to prohibit drone videos over national defense sites."

In a subsequent tweet on April 22, 2025, Kiggans highlighted America's projected shortage of more than 78,000 nurses and its adverse effects on patient care. Drawing from her experience as a nurse practitioner, she announced the introduction of the PRECEPT Nurses Act to foster training opportunities and bolster the nursing workforce. "In 2025, America has a projected shortage of over 78,000 nurses. As a nurse practitioner, I've seen the negative effects these shortages have on patients — that's why I introduced the PRECEPT Nurses Act to help train and build the next generation of nurses our communities need!"

Kiggans further invited her followers to learn more about the PRECEPT Nurses Act by reading her op-ed in Newsweek. "Read more about this bill in my recent op-ed in Newsweek."

Kiggans, 51, was born in Tampa, Florida in 1971 and currently resides in Virginia Beach. She has served in Congress since 2023, following her term in the Virginia Senate from 2020 to 2022, and is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
