The Virginia Zoo is set to host its inaugural Holidays in the Wild: Holiday Market on December 7, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The event will feature over 40 local vendors, live music by Doorway Singers' strolling carolers, animal ambassador pop-up encounters, and free photos with Santa. Partnered with Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC) and Coca-Cola, the zoo aims to bring joy to both people and animals in the Hampton Roads community.
Visitors can enjoy a festive day with family, celebrating alongside their favorite animals. The zoo offers one free admission for guests who donate qualifying items to NACC’s Waggin’ Wheels mobile unit on December 7 and December 21. Donations include five-pound bags of dry pet food or three new items from NACC's list. Other acceptable donations are blankets, towels, toys, dog collars, leashes, treats, or small animal supplies. The full donation list is available on the Virginia Zoo's website.
Coca-Cola will enhance the holiday experience with its Coca-Cola Caravan offering soda tastings and free photos with Santa. A special ornament will be given to the first 300 guests entering on December 7th. Additionally, attendees have a chance to win a Coca-Cola polar bear plush in a raffle.
Food and beverage options from local vendors like Flippin’ Hangry, Instrumental Coffee, and Waters Edge Winery will be available for purchase.
The event is included with paid general admission or Zoo membership on December 7. More details can be found at virginiazoo.org/event/holiday-market/. Note that the zoo will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk has been home to over 700 animals across more than 150 species since its founding in 1901. Spanning across 53 acres, it focuses on wildlife conservation through education and engagement as an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
