Norfolk announces holiday closures and adjusted schedules

The City of Norfolk has announced the closure of its government offices, libraries, The Slover, recreation centers, and the Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC) on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. This is in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Facilities such as the Norfolk Animal Care Center, recreation centers, and Norfolk Public Library Anchor Branch Locations—including Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch at Broad Creek, Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch, Richard A. Tucker Memorial Library, Downtown Branch at Slover—and The Slover will resume normal operations on Saturday, November 30. Meanwhile, neighborhood library branches like Barron F. Black and others will reopen on Monday, December 2.

City services including the Commissioner of Revenue's office, City Treasurer's office, and the Norfolk Courthouse will close early at noon on Wednesday, November 27. They are scheduled to reopen on Monday, December 2.

Waste Management has arranged for Thursday routes to be collected on Saturday instead. Collections scheduled for Friday will proceed as usual. Residents need to submit bulk waste collection requests for November 29 and 30 by 3 p.m., Wednesday via MyNorfolk app or online portal or call (757) 664-6510.

The SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station located at 3136 Woodland Ave. will also be closed on Thursday but will open again for regular business hours starting Saturday. Household hazardous waste can be disposed of between noon and 4 p.m.

Street sweeping initially set for Thursday will occur on Saturday while those planned for Friday are rescheduled to Monday, December 9.
