The Chesapeake Public Utilities Department is collaborating with public water providers nationwide to meet the updated Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). This involves creating an inventory of water service lines and informing customers about their service line status.

Many residents will receive notifications indicating whether the pipe material on either the city-owned or private side of their service line is classified as “lead status unknown” or “galvanized requiring replacement.” The letter includes specific language from the EPA, which may cause concern among recipients. To address potential questions, Public Utilities has provided answers to anticipated inquiries. For further assistance, individuals can contact the department via email at LCR@cityofchesapeake.net or by phone at 757-382-3557 during business hours from Monday to Friday.

Recipients of these letters are advised to follow instructions under Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to identify their service line materials. Once determined, they should email their findings to update the inventory at LCR@cityofchesapeake.net.
