Chesapeake certifies election results; new terms begin January

The City of Chesapeake has released the certified final results for the mayoral, city council, and school board elections, as well as the Curbside Recycling Advisory Referendum. The newly elected officials will assume their roles on January 1, 2025.

In the mayoral race, Richard W. "Rick" West received 68,421 votes while Don J. Carey III garnered 53,939 votes.

For the City Council seats, S.Z. "Debbie" Ritter led with 50,547 votes followed by Les Smith Jr. with 49,252 votes and Patricia Y. "Pat" King with 49,073 votes. Other candidates included E.R. "Jeff" Jefferies Jr., Eric V. Wray II, Reagan A. Davis, Robert C. Ike Jr., Jennifer P. Naperala, and Jeff B. Staples.

In the School Board election results, Angie B. Swygert topped the list with 52,965 votes followed by Norman G. Pool with 47,024 votes and Malia L. Huddle with 46,661 votes among others such as Elijah Colon and Daniel A. Stahler.

The Curbside Recycling Advisory Referendum saw a majority voting 'No' with a total of 76,904 against it compared to 'Yes' which had 46,766 supporters.

All precincts have reported their results ensuring a complete tally for each category in this electoral process.
