In October, the City of Chesapeake organized community open houses to discuss various urban planning initiatives. These sessions focused on Character Districts, proposed changes to Overlay Districts, Planning Area narratives, Special Policy Areas, and future updates to the Master Transportation Plan.

For those who could not attend these meetings, the city has made information available online. Residents are encouraged to review this material and provide feedback through an ongoing survey.

The proposed Character Districts map is available for viewing, offering insights into the key features of each district type. Changes to the 2045 Overlay Districts include expanding the Urban Overlay in Deep Creek and extending the Rural Overlay to parts of the Sunray Agricultural Historic District.

Chesapeake's ten Planning Areas each have unique histories and characteristics. The city seeks public input on whether these areas have been accurately represented. Additionally, while the Comprehensive Plan covers all of Chesapeake, certain regions receive more detailed recommendations through Special Policy Areas.

An update to the Master Transportation Plan is forthcoming. Residents can view the current plan and suggest improvements via the survey.

The City of Chesapeake invites residents to participate in shaping their community's future by providing feedback on these initiatives.
