2023-24 School Year Enrollment: 188 kindergarten students welcomed in Southampton County schools

There were 188 kindergarten students enrolled in Southampton County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 9.3% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of kindergarten students in the county was Riverdale Elementary School.

Within Southampton County schools, the largest number of students were found in 10th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Southampton County ranked 85th in enrollment numbers. It was ranked 84th the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
