Guide for Chesapeake residents ahead of November elections

As the November 5 election approaches, voters are encouraged to consider their options for casting ballots. Voters can choose between in-person voting on Election Day, early in-person voting, or voting by mail.

Sample ballots will be made available on the Voter Registrar's Office website as soon as they are ready.

The deadline to register to vote or make changes to existing registrations is Tuesday, October 15. Registration can be completed online, in person at the Chesapeake Voter Registrar's Office, or by mail with an application from any Chesapeake Public Library branch or Treasurer's Office location.

Registered voters have several options for early in-person voting without needing prior approval. Voting locations include:

- **Voter Registrar’s Office (411 Cedar Rd.)**

- September 20 – November 2

- Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

- Saturday (October 26 and November 2): 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

- Sunday (October 6): 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

- **Satellite Locations (Central Library, Indian River Library, Major Hillard Library, Cuffee Community Center)**

- October 7 - November 2

- Monday – Thursday: 10:00 a.m. –6:00 p.m.

- Friday:10:00 a.m.–4:00p.m.

- Saturday (October26andNovember2):9:00a.m.–5:00p.m.

**Note:** All satellite locations will be closed on Monday, October14.

- **Western Branch Community Center**

- October21–November2

- Monday–Thursdayfrom10:00a.m.–6:00p.m.

- Saturday(October26andNovember2)from9;0am–5;0pm

Russell Memorial Library is unavailable as a satellite voting location due to construction. The nearest alternatives are Western Branch Community Center starting October21 and Major Hillard Library starting October7.

For absentee voting by mail, registered voters no longer need a witness signature but must provide their year of birth and the last four digits of their social security number.The deadline to apply for mail-in ballots is Friday,October25,and applications must reach the Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office by5;0opm

Completed mail-in ballots must be postmarked by November5 and received by noon on Friday.November8.If returning completed ballots in person,the Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office must receive them by7;0opm on Election Day.Drop-off options include secure outdoor drop boxes at the office and designated boxes at early-voting locations and polling places on Election Day.

On Election Day,polls will be open from6;0amto7;0pm.Voters must cast their ballots at assigned precincts.Locations can be found using an interactive map or through registration information lookup at Elections.Virginia.gov.An approved ID is required for in-person voting.
