Chesapeake City government offices, courts, community centers, and public libraries in the state of Virginia will have modified hours during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. The revised schedule, posted by the City of Chesapeake, outlines the specific days when these facilities will be closed to the public.
According to the schedule, City Offices will be closed on Friday, December 22, Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1. This closure includes the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Select offices as well. Community Centers will also be closed on these same dates, with the addition of Saturday, December 23.
Similarly, Public Libraries will be closed on Friday, December 22, Saturday, December 23, Sunday, December 24, Monday, December 25, Sunday, December 31, and Monday, January 1. Visitors are advised to plan their library visits accordingly.
However, the Visitor Center will remain open on Friday, December 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while being closed on Saturday, December 23, Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1.
The Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare (CIBH) will also be closed on Friday, December 22, Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1. However, emergency services will continue to be available during this time.
In terms of trash collection, there will be no changes to the regular schedule. Residents are reminded to ensure that boxes from expensive gifts, such as computers and televisions, are not left visible on the curbside, as they can attract unwanted attention from potential criminals.
Furthermore, residents are informed that "live" Christmas trees can be placed at the curbside for collection on their normal collection day. However, the trees must be free of all stands, lights, ornaments, and decorations before being placed at the curb.
