Norfolk Public Library Hosting Speaker on College of William & Mary’s The Lemon Project

NORFOLK, VA – Dr. Jody Lynn Allen, Assistant Professor of History and Robert Francis Engs Director of The Lemon Project at The College of William & Mary, will present Changing the Landscape at William & Mary on Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Downtown Branch at Slover, 235 E. Plume St.

Dr. Allen will speak on the project’s research into the university’s exploitation of slave labor from its founding up to the Civil War, and its multifaceted and dynamic attempt to rectify wrongs perpetrated, through action or inaction, against African Americans by the university.

 About The Lemon Project: The College of William & Mary’s The Lemon Project: A Journey of Reconciliation is a multifaceted and dynamic attempt to rectify wrongs perpetrated against African Americans by William & Mary through action or inaction. The Project explores and encourages scholarship on the university’s 330-year long relationship with African Americans. A member of the Universities Studying Slavery Consortium, The Lemon Project is named for Lemon (died circa 1817), a man who was once enslaved by William & Mary.
