After enduring a wet and snowy winter, Norfolk is shifting its focus to repairing the roads. The city has designated April as Pothole Month to address the potholes that have emerged across its streets.

"Potholes form when water seeps into cracks in the pavement. As temperatures fluctuate, the water expands and contracts, causing the pavement to weaken and break apart under the weight of vehicles," explained city officials. They emphasized the importance of fixing these road hazards to ensure safe driving conditions. Repairs require consistent warmer temperatures, which is why the city schedules them for spring. Last year, more than 1,400 potholes were repaired.

The city’s pothole patrol team is prepared to take swift action this month. With an on-site asphalt plant, Norfolk has the necessary materials and staff to patch up and repair potholes efficiently. The city encourages residents to report any potholes they encounter.

Norfolk provides several ways for residents to submit pothole repair requests: via the MyNorfolk Mobile App available on iOS and Android, online at www.mynorfolk.org, by calling Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510 during weekdays, or by emailing healthyneighborhoods@norfolk.gov.
