Chesapeake mayoral election sees Rick W. West leading in unofficial results

With 66 of 68 precincts reporting, the current unofficial vote tallies have been released. The remaining two precincts include a significant number of post-election absentee ballots and provisional ballots. Certification of provisional ballots is expected to continue into next week. All vote counts are unofficial until certified by the Chesapeake Electoral Board.

As of 11:34 p.m., with 66 out of 68 precincts reporting, the results are as follows:

For Mayor, Rick W. West leads with 66,708 votes against Don J. Carey III who has received 52,211 votes.

In the City Council race, S.Z. "Debbie" Ritter is leading with 49,270 votes followed by Les Smith Jr. with 47,932 votes and Patricia Y. "Pat" King at 47,580 votes. Other candidates include E.R. "Jeff" Jefferies Jr., Eric V. Wray II, Reagan A. Davis, Robert C. Ike Jr., Jennifer P. Naperala, and Jeff B. Staples.

For the School Board positions, Angie B. Swygert has garnered the highest number of votes at 51,760 followed by Norman G. Pool with 46,087 and Malia L. Huddle with 45,262 votes among others.

Regarding the Curbside Recycling Advisory Referendum: "No" leads with a substantial margin having received 74,758 votes compared to "Yes" which stands at 45,396 votes.

The official certification process will be conducted by the Chesapeake Electoral Board once all provisional ballots have been reviewed.
