The City of Norfolk has announced a series of office closures in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day. Government offices, including libraries, The Slover, recreation centers, and the Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC), will be closed from December 23 through December 25 and on January 1. This closure also includes the offices of the Commissioner of Revenue and the City Treasurer.
Norfolk Courthouse, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts will observe closures from December 23 to December 26, resuming operations on December 27. These courts will also close on December 31 and January 1, reopening on January 2.
For trash and recycling collection, services will proceed as scheduled on December 24 and December 26. Bulk waste pickup requests for these dates must be submitted by 3 p.m. on December 20. Collection for December 25 will occur on December 28 with bulk waste requests due by December 27 at 3 p.m. Services will follow the regular schedule on December 31; however, collection for January 1 is moved to January 4 with bulk waste requests required by January 3 at 3 p.m.
Residents can request bulk pickups anytime using the MyNorfolk mobile app or online portal or by calling Norfolk Cares at (757)664-6510 during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Regarding holiday tree disposal: natural or artificial trees should be placed curbside without decorations on regular trash collection days until January 31 without needing a bulk pickup request.
The SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station will not operate on December 25 and January 1, with no residential Household Hazardous Waste or E-Waste disposal available on December24.
Quarterly street sweeping originally scheduled for December24 will take place instead on January4; sweeping set forDecember25will occuronDecember30;andJanuary1sweepingwillbeconductedonJanuary6.Residents are reminded to move vehicles from right-of-way areas to allow sweepers full access to curblines.
