The City of Chesapeake has announced several transportation projects aimed at improving road safety and traffic flow in the Greenbrier area. These projects will be discussed in upcoming citizen information meetings, allowing residents to learn more and provide feedback.

The Butts Station Road at Kempsville Road Improvements project involves minor widening of lanes and adding a through lane that transitions into a dedicated right turn onto Thornloe Lane. Another project, Eden Way N. at Greenbrier Parkway Intersection Improvements, will add a second left-turn lane from westbound Eden Way North onto southbound Greenbrier Parkway, along with a partial sidewalk adjacent to the lane improvements.

The Volvo Parkway at Battlefield Boulevard Intersection Improvements is divided into two phases. Phase 1 will introduce an eastbound right-turn lane and re-striping for three left-turn lanes, two through lanes, and one exclusive right-turn lane. Phase 2 will widen the westbound approach to Battlefield Boulevard with an additional right-turn lane and restriping existing lanes to create three left-turn lanes.

A citizen information meeting regarding these projects is scheduled for Thursday, November 7th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Greenbrier Middle School (1016 Greenbrier Pkwy.). Public comments on these projects will be accepted until November 17th.

Additionally, the Freeman Avenue Railroad Overpass project proposes constructing an overpass along Freeman Avenue to eliminate the current at-grade railroad crossing of the NPBL railroad line. This plan includes new connecting roads for property access. A separate meeting for this project is set for Thursday, November 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at South Norfolk Memorial Library (801 Poindexter St.), with public comments open until November 24th.

Residents can contact the City of Chesapeake for more information or view further contact details online.
