To celebrate the spirit and history of the holidays, the Virginia Beach History Museums will host December events at the Lynnhaven Colonial Education Center, located on the grounds of the historic Lynnhaven House, 4409 Wishart Road, and at the Thoroughgood House, 1636 Parish Road.

O Christmas Tea

Saturday, Dec. 2 – Tea times at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Lynnhaven Colonial Education Center

Care for a spot of tea? Come to the historic Lynnhaven House on Saturday, Dec. 2, and celebrate the holiday season at “O Christmas Tea.” Dickens meets Downton Abbey in this classic, late 19th century holiday tea. Enjoy a specially curated selection of traditional Victorian teas, a menu of tasty treats and a variety of holiday melodies!

“O Christmas Tea” will take place in the Lynnhaven Colonial Education Center. Two seatings of 50 guests each are available (11 a.m. and 2 p.m.). Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased online in advance.

Yuletide Wassailing & Wonder Tours

Saturday, Dec. 16, & Sunday, Dec. 17 – Tours from noon to 5 p.m. at the Thoroughgood House

Come celebrate the season at Thoroughgood House by stepping back in time to experience some favorite colonial holiday traditions. The house and grounds come alive with the sounds of live instrumental music by members of the Itinerant Band, while costumed guides share stories of the decor, traditions, food and festivities of 18th century coastal Virginia. Enjoy historic and timeless carols by the yule fire with the Doorway Singers, or stop by the food demonstration and make a cinnamon ornament, while grabbing a hot drink and some sweets. Don’t forget to write your wishes to burn on the Yule logs before you head home!

Warm Wassail and Pleasure House Mulled Ale, provided by the Friends of Virginia Beach Historic Houses, will be available for purchase at the event for those 21 and older.

Tickets are $15 for adults and children 11+, $7 for children 2-10, free for children younger than 2. Purchase online through the Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Department’s ticketing site.
