VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Virginia Beach Fire crews were dispatched to the 2600 Block of Atlantic Avenue. When crews arrived, they observed heavy smoke coming from a single-story structure, the T-Shirt Factory. More than 75 firefighters responded to the three-alarm commercial structure. The fire quickly spread to two adjoining businesses: the Maple Tree Pancake & Waffle House and King of the Sea Restaurant. All occupants of all three businesses were accounted for and safe. As a precaution, cars were removed from side streets near the incident to keep them from becoming damaged.
One firefighter was transported to hospital with a burn injury. No other injuries were reported to civilians or pets.
As part of our Mutual Aid Agreements, units from Chesapeake, Norfolk and Navy Region were called to backfill stations that were dispatched to the Atlantic Avenue incident. The fire was marked under control at 21:05:38 and marked out at 10:45:00
The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation.
