NORFOLK, VA – The weather may not be summer-like right now, but making sure residents and visitors are prepared and safe for beach visits remains paramount in the City of Norfolk.
All 7.3 miles of Norfolk beaches are open to the public. The City’s three public beach parks are:
Community Beach Park – 700 E. Ocean View Ave.
Ocean View Beach Park – 100 W. Ocean View Ave.
Sarah Constant Beach Park – 300 W. Ocean View Ave.
Norfolk beach lifeguards, stationed at Community Beach Park from noon until 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, through Labor Day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, are always prepared, including Chief Lifeguard Dan Jones, who recounted a rescue from last year’s Independence Day weekend when he recently received the Red Cross National Lifesaving Award.
Residents are reminded that Sarah Constant Beach Park and Ocean View Beach Park will not have beach guards on duty; however, lifeguards patrol all beaches on ATVs during duty hours. Patrons swim at their own risk.
More information on beach access locations, parking and other facilities is available at www.norfolk.gov/beaches.
Indoor pool operations will remain the same.
Huntersville Pool is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Northside Pool is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Both pools are closed 1 – 2 p.m. for cleaning. Southside Aquatic Center is expected to reopen in late June. The Chesterfield and Norfolk Fitness & Wellness Center outdoor pools are projected to open mid-June.
