ShotSpotter Alert Leads to Felony Arrest

City of Virginia Beach issued the following announcement on March 8

March 4, 2022, at approximately 1924 hours, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1000 block of Longstreet Ave. indicating multiple gunshots had been fired. An officer stopped a suspect in the 1000 block of Longstreet Ave who matched the description given of the shooter. A K-9 officer, and his partner located and recovered a handgun and extended round magazine in close proximity of the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Nathan R. Hines, a 28-year-old male from Virginia Beach. Hines was charged with Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Carrying Loaded Firearms in Public, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm in City Limits, and Public Intoxication.
