Virginia Wesleyan College Athletics issued the following announcement on Feb. 2
The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team narrowly defeated the Hornets from Shenandoah University 63-62 on Wednesday evening at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins found the opening basket, a three-pointer by Jordan Crump 14 seconds into the game. Neither team found another basket for two and a half minutes and it was the hornets who connected with three consecutive scores to take a 6-2 lead at the 15:19 mark. VWU came back to take a one-point lead, 7-6, but SU went on an 11-3 run taking a 17-10 lead with 10:44 remaining in the opening half. Over the next five minutes the Marlins chipped away at the Hornets lead to reclaim a one-point margin, 25-24, but Shenandoah went on a 7-2 run taking a 31-27 lead with 3:50 on the clock. Virginia Wesleyan held Shenandoah scoreless the remaining 3:50 and scored 12 points of their own to take a 39-31 lead into the intermission. A pair of three pointers, one each from Crump and Miles Wallace helped give the Marlins a slight eight-point buffer.
Virginia Wesleyan managed to maintain a double digit lead throughout the beginning of the second half sitting ahead by 10 points, 48-38, at the 13:45 mark. As the clock ticked under 13 minutes remaining, the Hornets started to close in on the Marlins and knotted the score at 50 all off a free throw with 8:45 on the clock. The teams traded the lead four times over the next five minutes with the Marlins gaining the lead last, 57-56 (3:42), as they held on tight as each team closed out the game scoring six points pushing the final score up to 63-62.
MARLIN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Tim Fisher with 19 points and a season high 15 rebounds. Corey Pelham was the only other Marlin in double digits with 10 points of his own. Omari DeVeaux added nine points while Miles Wallace and Jordan Crump both collected seven apiece.
HORNETS LEADERS
The Hornets were led by Jaylen Williams with 21 points while Davion Roberts added 11 as the only two Hornets in double digits. Deondre McNeill added 10 rebounds to go along with his nine points before fouling out.
