Virginia Wesleyan College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 29
The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Generals of Washington & Lee University 88-53 on Saturday afternoon at the Richard L. Duchossois Athletics and Recreation Center in Lexington, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins scored the first four points of the game before the Generals found a 6-0 run taking a two-point lead at the 7:42 mark. A layup from Adaje Williams knotted the score at six all and VWU took the lead following a Logan Carter three pointer. After the score evened up at nine all, the Marlins score four free throws going up 13-9 with 4:16 to play in the opening quarter. The Generals came back to take the lead and ended the first quarter on a 10-3 run taking a 19-16 advantage into the second quarter.
Five quick points from VWU gave the Marlins a one point lead, 20-19. WLU hit a three pointer at 8:59 on the clock to go one one and began a back and forth between the two squads that saw the score tie up twice, 25 and 27 all. Following Williams basket the evened the score at 27 all (4:14), the Generals went on a12-0 run that locked down the Marlins as the teams entered halftime with the score sitting at 39-27.
WLU opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run opening an 18-point lead, 45-27, before a basket by Celeste Rucker at 6:45 ended the Marlins eight-minute scoreless streak. VWU added eight more points the remainder of the third quarter while WLU put up 23 of their own taking a 68-37 lead into the final ten minute period.
Virginia Wesleyan added 16 points to their total in the fourth quarter but could not catch Washington & Lee who added another 20 to their own score resulting in the Generals collecting an 88-53 victory over the Marlins.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Adaje Williams with 19 points on the day. Celeste Rucker and Jada Norman each added eight.
WASHINGTON & LEE LEADERS
The Generals were led by Kate Groninger with 14 points while Kathryn Vandiver added 13 and Megan Horn 12. Tahri Phillips scored 11 points while Jordan Diehl rounded out the double figure point scorers with 10 points on the day. Diehl also collected 10 rebounds.

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday February 2, when they travel to Bridgewater, VA to face the Eagles of Bridgewater College. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
