Virginia Wesleyan College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 20
Junior Jordan Crump set a new career-high with 29 points in the Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball victory over the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College 74-69 on Thursday evening at S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium in Hampden-Sydney, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Hampden-Sydney found the scoreboard first with a basket 32 seconds into the game but Virginia Wesleyan responded shortly after with a three pointer from Corey Pelham taking a slim 3-2 lead. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run before a three pointer by Jordan Crump halted the HSC run putting the score at 8-6 with 16:29 on the clock. Miles Wallace tied the score at eight all with a layup but Hampden-Sydney went on an 8-0 rally taking a 16-8 lead wby the 13:17 mark. The Marlins went on a 16-4 run over the next six minutes that allowed the Marlins to pull ahead 24-20 as HSC called a timeout at the 7:20 mark. During the run, three three pointers starting things off and then a three point play the old fashioned way off a lay up and free throw from Jordan Crump knotted the score at 20 all with 9:29 remaining in the first half. HSC went on a six point run taking a 26-24 lead but Tim Fisher tied the score at 26 all on a layup off the Pelham assist with five minutes to play. In the final five minutes the teams traded baskets and the lead three times as VWU led an 8-4 run into the halftime break with the Marlins leading 34-30 at the intermission.
Virginia Wesleyan opened the second half with five points courtesy of Crump putting the Marlins up 39-30 in the first minute of the second half. The Tigers pulled within two points, 39-37, following a seven point run by HSC but VWU responded with a 7-2 run of their own taking a 46-39 lead with 13:52 to play. Hampden-Sydney used the next three minutes to climb back and knot the score at 50 all (10:26) after an 11-4 run by the Tigers. The scored evened up twice over the next three and a half minutes as a jumper by Kelvin Nicholson put the score at 54 all. The Marlins gained slight momentum following a Crump three-pointer but the Tigers countered taking a 58-57 lead after HSC scored four consecutive of a pair of free throws and a layup. Back to back three pointers by Pelham gave VWU a five point 63-58 lead with 3:28 left in regulation. Hampden-Sydney pulled within three points a three times in the final minutes but Virginia Wesleyan held off the Tigers to pull off the 74-69 win.
MARLIN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Jordan Crump who set a new career high with 29 points after shooting 10-of-13 from the field including 5-of-7 from behind the three point arch. Tim Fisher added 12 points while Corey Pelham and Omari DeVeaux each contributed 11 points of their own. Both Pelham and DeVeaux scored nine of their 11 points off three three-pointers.
The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins have now won 15 of the last 16 contests against the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney.
TIGERS LEADERS
The Tigers were led by Davidson Hubbard with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Jake Hahn was the only other HSC player in double digits with 11 points.
