Help VB Home Now “Pack the Box” on Nov. 13 to Support Families and Individuals Experiencing Homelessness

City of Virginia Beach issued the following announcement on Nov. 5

To kick off Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, nonprofit VB Home Now, in partnership with Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation, is holding its first "Pack the Box" community donation drive on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The foundation is inviting the community to help fill the recently installed Housing Resource Center (HRC) shipping containers with items to support unsheltered individuals during the winter and others moving from homelessness to housing settle into their own place. Donations can be dropped off during the event in the parking lot of the HRC at 104 N.  Witchduck Road.

Most needed items include:

  • $5 restaurant gift cards
  • Air mattresses
  • Twin-sized blankets
  • Bus passes
  • Diapers
  • Hand warmers
  • HE liquid laundry detergent
  • Ponchos
  • Thermal underwear
  • Underwear
 Move-in kits with bedding, bath, kitchen, and cleaning supplies with new, full-sized items are also needed. Complete kits are most helpful, but any quantity of items is appreciated.
