Marlins bested by Bridgewater College in ODAC opener

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team dropped their ODAC opener to the Eagles of Bridgewater College 24-5 on Sunday afternoon at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a pair of goals in the opening five minutes of the first quarter. The Marlins found their first goal from the stick of Chris Lindemeyer at the 8:27 as he scored off a Nathan Sheirburn pass. BC put up another two goals before VWU scored again, this time from Joey Rayman off the assist from Tommy Faiella in a power play opportunity that put the score at 4-2. Bridgewater added one more goal in the first taking a 5-2 lead into the second.

Bridgewater posted seven goals in the second quarter to go into the halftime break with a 12-2 lead. The Eagles added another six in the third quarter leading 18-2 heading into the final 15 minute period.

Mark Sprague opened the fourth quarter with a goal 55 seconds into the period. He scored a second goal a little less than two minutes later putting the score at 19-4. BC added two goals before VWU scored their last goal of tha game as Jackson Rockhill hit the back of the net with just under six minutes to play. Bridgewater closed out the contest with three more goals putting the final score at 24-5.

  • Josh van Zuylen (W: 3-3) played 45 minutes in goal giving up 14 goals while making 11 saves.
