Inside Business Showcases the 2021 Anniversary Issue as the Hampton Roads Chamber Celebrates 220 years.
Over 50 top-tier businesses and organizations were recognized this year with Hampton Roads Chamber at the top as we celebrate 220 years of being the Voice of Business for the Hampton Roads Region.
The Hampton Roads Chamber “means business” and it has since it was founded 220 years ago.
Bryan Stephens has sat at the helm of the chamber as its president and CEO for the past seven years.
“Business is hard; it’s hard to run a business, but you don’t need to go it alone,” Stephens said. “One of the primary roles of the chamber is to set the conditions in the region so that businesses can be a success.”
Noting they do that in a multitude of ways, Stephens said one of the biggest impacts is ensuring pro-business legislation at local, state, and federal levels.
“We also do it by supporting incumbents and candidates for elected office; we want pro-business legislators,” he said.
The nonprofit organization rebranded to establish its concise purpose with a play on words five years ago, but its beginnings go back much further.
