90 percent of applicants to Norfolk State University were admitted for fall 2018

At Norfolk State University, 78 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 65 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Norfolk enrolled 5,204 students in fall 2018, including 4,660 in undergraduate and 544 in graduate programs, data shows. 8.2 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

68 percent of undergraduates are residents of Virginia, and 31 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as Black or African American (85 percent) and two or more races (5 percent).

The school admitted 90 percent of the 7,442 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 16 percent enrolled.
