The upcoming June 18 Primary Election in Chesapeake, Virginia is quickly approaching, and it's essential for voters to be informed about the various options available to cast their ballots.

As emphasized by election officials, voters have multiple ways to participate in the election process. One option highlighted is the flexibility to vote either in-person on Election Day, during early voting, or by mail.

In Chesapeake, there will be two distinct ballots for voters to consider. According to the guidelines, one ballot is designated for Democratic candidates for the House of Representatives (2nd District only), while the other is for Republican candidates for the United States Senate. Voters are reminded that they must select only one ballot to cast their vote, irrespective of their political affiliation.

To ensure participation in the June 18 Primary Election, potential voters are reminded that the deadline for voter registration and any necessary registration changes is Tuesday, May 28. This includes updates such as address changes or name modifications.

On Election Day, scheduled for June 18, polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and voters are required to vote at their assigned precinct. To locate their polling place, voters can utilize an interactive map or access registration information at Elections.Virginia.gov.

For those interested in early voting, the option to cast ballots in person at the Voter Registrar’s Office on Cedar Rd is available from May 3 to June 15 on weekdays and on selected Saturdays.

Additionally, registered voters have the opportunity to apply for absentee voting by mail. The process has been simplified, with the removal of the witness signature requirement. Voters opting for this method must ensure that their completed ballots are postmarked by June 18 and received by the Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office no later than noon on June 21.

It's important to note that voters on the permanent absentee ballot list will only receive a ballot for this election if they have selected either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party for Primary Elections. Those who have chosen neither party must submit a new application to receive a ballot by mail.

As the June 18 Primary Election date approaches, Chesapeake residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the voting options and procedures to ensure their voices are heard in this crucial electoral process.
