Motorists traveling west on I-64 should prepare for a new traffic pattern at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) starting overnight on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. The HRBT Expansion crews will shift both lanes of traffic onto a temporary bridge leading into the westbound tunnel to facilitate the next phase of construction for the new tunnel approaches at South Island.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution near work zones. Before traveling, consider using VDOT’s free 511 Virginia traffic tools or the 511-integrated Waze GPS app for current road and travel conditions.
