Virginia Beach swiftwater rescue team heads to Texas for flood assistance

Eight members of the Virginia Beach Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team, designated as VA-2, are set to travel to Texas this evening. They will be assisting with flood response operations under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). The team is scheduled to leave at 5 p.m. from the Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center.

The Virginia Beach Swiftwater Rescue Team is one of around 30 specialized teams in Virginia, trained for water rescue operations during emergencies. This mission marks their fifth deployment since they were established in 2022.

Fire Chief Ken Pravetz stated, “We are proud to support our partners in Texas during this challenging time. Our Swiftwater Rescue Team is highly trained and prepared to assist communities impacted by flooding.”

The Virginia Beach Fire Department emphasizes its commitment to aiding emergency response efforts nationwide while maintaining services for Virginia Beach residents.
