The Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation department is bringing back its Parks After Dark program for a third consecutive year, with expanded activities across new locations. The event series, which offers free family entertainment, will now include the Level Green and Green Run communities alongside Williams Farm. The events are scheduled from June 5 through August 23, running from 6-11 p.m. on most Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Attendees can expect live music performances, outdoor movie screenings, games such as lawn darts and dodgeball, video game tournaments, and a variety of local food vendors. This initiative aims to provide a safe environment for families during evening hours.
Originally launched in 2023 at Williams Farm Park, Parks After Dark was designed to offer family-friendly activities in the evenings when options are limited. The program collaborates with several community partners including the Mayor’s Youth Violence Prevention Task Force and the Virginia Beach Police Department. A significant portion of the staff comes from the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), which engages local teens and young adults in leadership roles.
“Parks After Dark demonstrates the power of collaboration and the importance of creating spaces where communities can connect and thrive,” stated Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation officials. The addition of two new sites aims to foster connections among youth, police, and community members through enjoyable activities.
No recreation center membership is required for participation. Visitors must check in at the Guest Services tent to receive hand stamps and food vouchers while supplies last. Each weekend will feature themed events and movies. Further details on schedules and vendors are available on VirginiaBeach.gov/ParksAfterDark.
Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation continues its mission to promote healthy lifestyles while ensuring accessibility for all residents regardless of their circumstances. It was awarded the National Gold Medal Award for excellence in management by the American Academy for Parks and Recreation Administration.
