Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBSchools) shared several updates on December 12, 2025, highlighting student engagement in science education, recognition of teaching excellence, and a call for parent feedback on special education services.

In a post published at midnight, VBSchools reported that “Glenwood ES 4th graders met scientists, ocean specialists, and environmental experts from all over the Hampton Roads area on Thur. They practiced interviews and connected what they learned to their ocean and water systems science unit.” The activity was part of the school’s efforts to enhance students’ understanding of ocean and water systems.

Later that day, at 5:00 p.m., VBSchools congratulated a teacher finalist: ” Congrats to Melissa Schappell of Salem High School, a 2027 Citywide Teacher of the Year finalist! She expands creative opportunities for students both in and beyond the classroom.” The post also included a link for readers to learn more about Schappell’s contributions.

At 10:00 p.m., VBSchools reminded families about an important deadline regarding special education services: “Surveys due today! lf your child received special education services in 2024-2025, please complete the @VDOE_News Indicator 8 Parent Survey. Your responses are anonymous & help us improve student outcomes. Please submit by 12.12.25”

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is one of Virginia’s largest school divisions, serving tens of thousands of students across numerous elementary, middle, and high schools. The district frequently highlights achievements by students and staff as well as opportunities for parental involvement through its official communication channels.
