Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBSchools) shared updates on educational activities and scheduling changes in a series of posts from April 6 to April 7, 2026. The posts covered classroom science experiments, adjustments to the academic calendar, and student participation in an international simulation.
On April 6, VBSchools reported on a science event at Brookwood Elementary School. In their post, they wrote: “Science is getting loud and creative in fifth grade!
Former educator Mike Prokopchak visited Brookwood ES to help fifth graders experiment with the science of sound.
Our fifth graders turned vibrant water levels into different melodies to see exactly how pitch and vibration” (April 6, 2026).
Later that day, VBSchools informed families about a schedule change: “VBCPS families: Schools will be closed on Tuesday, April 21, due to the special election.
To meet the required instructional time, the school day will be extended by 10 minutes from April 13 through June 8. Dismissal times during this period can be found at https://t.co/yiFivN6cM2” (April 6, 2026). This adjustment ensures compliance with state instructional requirements following closures for elections or other events.
On April 7, VBSchools highlighted a student enrichment opportunity involving global issues. The post stated: “Students across VBCPS stepped into the roles of international leaders during a Model EU simulation hosted by the @virginia_tech Center for European and Transatlantic Studies.
Students applied classroom learning to real-world global issues.
