Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has announced several updates for its community in early April 2026 through its official social media account. The posts include information about school closures, recognition of teachers, and support for military-connected students.

On April 7, VBCPS informed families that “Schools will be closed on Tuesday, April 21, due to the special election. To meet the required instructional time, the school day will be extended by 10 minutes from April 13 through June 8. Dismissal times during this period can be found at https://t.co/X2hWUNInRn” (posted on April 7, 2026).

The following day, VBCPS highlighted achievements among its teaching staff. According to an April 8 post: “The Office of Professional Growth and Innovation recently recognized our new and renewed National Board Certified Teachers. Thank you for your continued dedication to our students! #WeAreVBSchools #NBCT https://t.co/aGDHpPpdqW” (posted on April 8, 2026).

Also on April 8, VBCPS acknowledged the Month of the Military Child. In a statement posted at 22:30 UTC: “April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize the strength and resilience of our military-connected students. In VBCPS, nearly 20% of students are military-connected, making them an important part of our community. Join us for “Purple Up! Day” on Wednesday,” (posted on April 8, 2026).

VBCPS serves a significant population of military-connected students—about one in five—reflecting the region’s close ties to nearby military installations.
