Two new businesses are set to open at Selden Market in Downtown Norfolk this fall. Model Citizen Cocktail Supply and Juniper & Jam will join the market’s lineup of small businesses as it completes the final phase of its renovations.

Model Citizen Cocktail Supply is led by mixologist and bar consultant Josh Seaburg. The shop will offer cocktail mixers, glassware, barware, and host tasting events and classes. Seaburg said, “Selden Market presents an exciting opportunity to open a space that people feel comfortable ‘just stopping by.’ I grew up in record stores and bookstores that encouraged community and conversation. That’s the feeling we want here—part store, part experience.” The store will also feature non-alcoholic drink options, gourmet hot dogs including vegetarian choices, and serve as a base for event cocktail consulting.

Juniper & Jam is operated by Sarah Wingate, who previously sold her products under the name Sarahndipitous at local farmers markets. She plans to offer jams, baked goods, and lunches made with locally sourced ingredients. Wingate stated, “What began as a farmer’s market table has grown into a dream come true. Norfolk has a welcoming, creative energy that feels like home. Juniper & Jam is here to offer food that feels like a warm hug—comforting, nourishing, and made with care.” The business aims to provide training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the future.

Careyann Weinberg, Director of Economic Vitality for Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC), commented on the additions: “We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. With Model Citizen and Juniper & Jam, we’re welcoming two incredibly thoughtful, talented, and mission-driven entrepreneurs to the Selden family. These businesses embody everything we stand for—creativity, quality, purpose, and a deep love for community. As renovations wrap up this fall, we’re ready to reintroduce Selden Market as a vibrant hub for culture, connection, and commerce. We can’t wait to get back to hosting regular community events and offering a welcoming, inspiring space for our small businesses and the people who support them.”

Selden Market operates as an incubator program managed by DNC that allows entrepreneurs to test business concepts with low rent options before committing long-term. The market features mostly women- and minority-owned shops.

Downtown Norfolk Council is a not-for-profit membership organization working toward economic development in downtown Norfolk through management of services such as safety initiatives within its 50-block improvement district (https://www.downtownnorfolk.org/about-dnc).

Additional business openings at Selden Market are expected later this year.
