Are you looking for some family-friendly ways to celebrate freedom this Independence Day? There will be multiple opportunities to show your patriotism in Chesapeake. Read on for event details.

Independence Day Celebration at the Great Bridge Battlefield Museum (Saturday, July 1): 

The Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Museum celebrates America’s Independence this weekend on Saturday, July 1. The day will be filled with children’s crafts, reenactors and colonial sailors, lessons about the constitution and its significance today, 18th century encampments by the Youth Virginia Regiment and Brethren of the Coast, a visit from the Master Gardeners and Historic Trail, treats for sale at the event’s popular bake sale, musket demonstrations, and more!

Celebrate Freedom Concert and Fireworks at City Park (Monday, July 3):

Enjoy band concerts, food trucks, giveaways, fireworks, and more! Bring your own chairs and blankets. (Tents, feather flags, and oversized umbrellas are not permitted.) The event is free to the public; parking on-site is $5.

  • 4 p.m. – Paid parking opens ($5)
  • 6 p.m. – Event gates open
  • 7 p.m. – Tidewater Winds Concert Band
  • 8:30 p.m. – U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Band
  • 9:30 p.m. Fireworks (approximate time)
Annual South Norfolk Fourth of July Parade and Picnic in the Park (Tuesday, July 4): 

Celebrate Independence Day at the annual 4th of July parade and picnic! This event is free to the public; some activities may require a small fee.
