Virginia Wesleyan College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 8
Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Generals of Washington & Lee University 80-62 on Saturday afternoon at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA. Three Marlins scored in double-digits in the game.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins first three points came by way of Adaje Williams off a free throw and a jumper as she knotted the score at three all following her basket at 6:35. Both teams scored a pair of free throws before the Generals went on a 6-0 run taking an 11-5 lead before Imani Felton scored a basket breaking the WLU run. Washington and Lee closed out the first quarter on an 8-0 run taking a 19-7 lead into the second.
Both teams opened the second quarter scoring six points each point the score at 25-13 with 6:22 on the clock. The Marlins climbed within nine points, 27-18, following a 5-2 run before the Generals scored eight unanswered points taking a 35-18 lead that they held until the Marlins scored again at the 1:56 mark. VWU scored seven points starting with their basket at 1:56 and pulled within ten points, 35-25, but WLU closed the half on a 5-0 run to lead by 15 at the half with the score sitting at 40-25.
The teams traded baskets back and forth with the Generals leading 47-31 with 7:18 on the clock. Washington & Lee opened up a 20-point lead, 51-31, at the 4:32 mark but a 12-4 run by Virginia Wesleyan cut the score to 55-43 with just over two minutes to play in the third. The teams closed out the quarter with a basket each with the score sitting at 58-45.
VWU climbed as close as nine points, 58-49, at the 8:45 mark, but from there WLU held the Marlins to 13 points while scoring 22 of their own to capture an 80-62 victory.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Adaje WIlliams with 18 points and six rebounds. Jessica Jennings added 12 points and eight assists and Celecte Rucker joined Williams and Jennings in double digits with 11 points and six rebounds.
WASHINGTON & LEE LEADERS
The Generals were led by Jordan Diehl with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Kate Groninger added 17 points and nine rebounds. Grace O'Connor rounded out the leading scorers for WLU.

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday January 12, when they travel to Harrisonburg, VA to face the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University. Tipoff is slated for 7 PM.
