Our ministry’s priority is always the health and safety of our team members, providers, patients and communities. Immunization is a way for us to achieve this. The COVID-19 vaccine has proven to be safe and highly effective. It is how we will move beyond this pandemic together.
Millions of people throughout the country have received COVID-19 vaccines, which has undoubtedly saved many lives across the country. But, despite widespread availability of vaccines and the emergence of new variants, millions of Americans have not yet opted to get vaccinated.
According to the Virginia Department of Health, more than 65 percent of Virginians have been fully vaccinated. This includes nearly 52 percent of people in Richmond and 63 percent of people in Henrico County.
To help increase these statistics, we recently teamed up with the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts as well as the National Football League (NFL) Alumni Association to host a mobile vaccination clinic at the Bon Secours Training Center. The event took place on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offered eligible participants ages 12 and older free doses and boosters of the Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
NFL alumni were on hand to meet and greet with participants and sign autographs. They included Ken Oxendine, a former Atlanta Falcons and Virginia Tech running back, NFC champion and current NFL Alumni Richmond chapter vice president; Ravin Caldwell, a former Washington Football Team linebacker and two-time world champion; and Riddick Parker, a former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman..
