Old Dominion University women’s tennis team defeated Georgia Southern 4-1 on April 10 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Virginia.

The win adds to Old Dominion’s season performance and reflects their current national ranking of number 59. The match began with doubles play, where Georgia Southern’s Franzi Heinemann and Nanaka Kijima secured a victory over Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova. However, Old Dominion responded as Kira Matushkina and Victoria Romanova won their match on court one. The decisive doubles point was claimed by Uladzislava Manzhos and Marina Markina, who won their set against Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman by a score of 7-5.

Georgia Southern was forced to forfeit court six due to not having enough players, giving Old Dominion an early advantage heading into singles play. Rasskouskaia extended the lead for Old Dominion with a straight-set victory over Amelie Rosadoro. Although Evelyn Warkentin earned a point for Georgia Southern by defeating Victoria Matasova, Ulyana Romanova clinched the overall win for Old Dominion with her own straight-set victory against Angelina Mihajlovic.

Matches involving Manzhos versus Heinemann and Markina versus Kijima were suspended before completion. With this result, Old Dominion continues its season momentum as it prepares to travel south to face number 32 Charlotte on Sunday, April 12 at 10 a.m.

The outcome of this match demonstrates depth in the Monarchs’ lineup as they look ahead to further conference competition.
