Old Dominion University Swimming concluded its season at the ASUN Conference Championships and the National Invitational Championships, according to a March 31 announcement. The Monarchs broke four school records, with Bryce Mortimer winning the ASUN 200 breaststroke for the second consecutive year.
The achievements highlight a strong postseason for Old Dominion. Successes included individual wins and new benchmarks in both team and solo events.
At the ASUN Championships, Mortimer won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:56.02 and placed second in the 200 individual medley at 1:46.64. Freshman Addison Elliott set a school record in the 100 backstroke by finishing second with a time of 53.13.
Zachary Redding earned three third-place finishes at ASUN, including breaking the school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 46.43, as well as placing third in both the 50 freestyle (19.60) and the 100 free (42.85). The Monarchs’ relay teams also performed strongly; Redding joined Jordan Smolsky, Robby Young, and Mortimer to set a school record of 1:19.25 in the third-place finishing 200 free relay team, while another group finished third in the 400 free relay at 2:55.88.
During competition at NIC, Redding led Old Dominion by taking second place in the 100 free with a time of 43.15 seconds while Grey Bremer finished fifth in the 500 free (4:25.60). The team of Mortimer, Dawson Truong, Smolsky, and Redding broke another school record by completing fifth place in the NIC’s medley relay (1:26.79), while Mortimer also took sixth place individually in the NIC’s IM event (49.27). Elliott secured an eighth-place finish for ODU in his event as well.
These results mark significant progress for Old Dominion University Swimming this season.
