Old Dominion men’s tennis defeats Delaware with 4-0 sweep

The Old Dominion University men’s tennis team defeated Delaware 4-0 on Apr. 10 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

The win marks a strong performance for Old Dominion, who are ranked number 56. The match saw the Monarchs secure both doubles and singles victories to claim the sweep.

Yanis Moundir and Felix Obermair started the day with a doubles win over James Sclater and Luke Tollenaar, finishing their match 6-3. Zech Hamrouni and Piet Steveker followed with another doubles victory against Pere Prat and Itamar Tapiro, also by a score of 6-3, which gave Old Dominion the doubles point. The third doubles match between Adam Majchrzak and Thomas Nelson versus Tobey Lock and Euan Mackenzie was suspended at a score of 3-5.

In singles play, Aryan Saleh extended Old Dominion’s lead by defeating Tollenaar in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Hamrouni then won his singles match against Tapiro, securing a result of 6-4, 6-4. Steveker clinched the overall victory for Old Dominion by beating Federico Garbero with scores of 7-5, 6-3 on court three. Other singles matches involving Majchrzak (vs. Lock), Obermair (vs. Mackenzie), and Moundir (vs. Prat) were suspended before completion.

Old Dominion is scheduled to host VCU on Sunday, April 12 at home for Senior Day celebrations honoring Saleh and Nelson after the conclusion of that match.
