Old Dominion University’s men’s basketball team will end its regular season on Friday with a game against Georgia State in Atlanta. The matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center and will be available to watch on ESPN+ and listen to on ESPN Sports Radio 94.1 FM.
With one conference game left, only the No. 14 seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Championship has been determined, belonging to ULM. Old Dominion is currently close in standings with Georgia Southern, Georgia State, and Louisiana as teams prepare for their final games before the tournament.
Earlier this month, Old Dominion defeated Georgia State 78-55 at home, extending its all-time series lead to 20-10. In that game, KC Shaw scored 28 points and Caelum Swanton-Rodger recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The event also marked Senior Day for Old Dominion and included the retirement of Ronnie Valentine’s No. 42 jersey.
Old Dominion enters Friday’s contest after a loss to Marshall earlier in the week but saw strong performances from Shaw (26 points) and Jordan Battle (24 points). Shaw leads the team with an average of 17.4 points per game and ranks fifth in scoring within the Sun Belt Conference. Battle follows with an average of 14.4 points per game and holds high rankings in free-throw percentage and steals within the conference.
The Monarchs are averaging 75.4 points per game while allowing opponents an average of 77.6 points per game this season.
Georgia State comes into Friday’s matchup following two consecutive losses, most recently falling to Coastal Carolina despite a career-high performance from Malachi Brown who scored 26 points. Jelani Hamilton leads Georgia State in scoring at an average of 17.6 points per game and tops the Sun Belt Conference in free-throw shooting percentage.
Georgia State averages just over 70 points per game but allows more than 74 on defense this season.
Following Friday’s regular-season finale, both teams will participate in the Sun Belt Championship scheduled for March 3–9 at Pensacola Bay Center in Florida, where teams will compete for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
