NorfolkPublicSchools has highlighted three educators as finalists for its 2027 Teacher of the Year award, according to a series of posts made in early January 2026.

On January 8, NorfolkPublicSchools introduced Donna Williams, a Biology Teacher at Maury High School. The post read: “We are celebrating #EducationExcellence. Meet Top 12 – 2027 Teacher of the Year Finalist Donna Williams, Biology Teacher at Maury High School. According to Principal Berg, “For 25 years, Ms. Williams has set the standard for excellence and student-centered learning.” #NPS https://t.co/cWrgxiMAGA”

The following day, on January 9, Sahrah Yashaahla was recognized as a finalist. The post stated: “We are celebrating #EducationExcellence. Meet Top 12 – 2027 Teacher of the Year Finalist Sahrah Yashaahla, Math Teacher at Azalea Gardens Middle School According to Principal Dr. Hinton, “Her commitment to students has transformed learning and strengthened achievement.” #NPS https://t.co/GarRQ28TaG”

Later that same day, Peggy Karl from Suburban Park Elementary was also announced as a finalist with the message: “We are celebrating #EducationExcellence. Meet Top 12 – 2027 Teacher of the Year Finalist Peggy Karl, Teacher at Suburban Park Elementary. According to Principal Dr. Jennings, “She is the kind of educator every student remembers…” #NPS https://t.co/k1Wle20abq”

NorfolkPublicSchools annually recognizes outstanding teachers through its Teacher of the Year program, aiming to honor those who have demonstrated dedication and positive impact within their schools.
