The City of Norfolk has announced a new parking initiative aimed at making visits to Downtown Norfolk more accessible and affordable. Starting July 1, both residents and visitors will benefit from two hours of free parking in city garages, updated short-term meter rates, and discounted rates through a business validation program.

The plan is designed to increase access to downtown businesses, improve the visitor experience, and boost tourism. Key features include:

– Two hours of free parking in 14 city-owned parking facilities. After the initial two-hour period, standard parking rates will apply.
– Updated meter rates with an increase of $0.50 per quarter hour or $2 per hour for on-street metered spaces in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas.
– A business validation program allowing local businesses to offer customers who stay longer than two hours a 50 percent discount on parking fees.

Examples of potential costs include a three-hour visit costing as little as $2 in city garages or $1 at MacArthur North and South Garages with validation.

The following City of Norfolk parking facilities will offer two hours of free parking:

– Bank Street Garage
– Main Street Garage
– Boush Street Garage
– Scope Garage
– Charlotte Street Garage
– Town Point Garage
– Fountain Park Garage
– Waterside Garage
– Freemason Street Garage
– W. Plume Street Garage
– MacArthur North Garage
– Union Street Lot
– MacArthur South Garage
– York Street Garage

Special events are excluded from this offer, and customers should check rate signs posted at facility entrances and exits for details.
