The City of Norfolk has announced that its government offices, including libraries, recreation centers, The Slover, and the Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC), will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. This closure also includes the Norfolk Courthouse and the Offices of the Commissioner of the Revenue and City Treasurer.
Libraries, The Slover, recreation centers, and pools with Saturday hours will operate as scheduled on July 5. The Norfolk Animal Care Center will also reopen as scheduled on July 5. All offices and facilities are set to resume regular business hours on Monday, July 7.
Trash and recycling services will proceed as usual on Friday, July 4. However, requests for bulk waste collection for that day must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 3. To arrange for bulk waste collection, residents can submit a service request via the MyNorfolk app or online portal at www.mynorfolk.org or call Norfolk Cares at (757) 664-6510.
Street sweeping planned for Friday, July 4 will be rescheduled to Monday, July 7. Residents are advised to move their vehicles from the right-of-way to allow sweepers access to the curbline.
Norfolk beach lifeguards will be present at Community Beach Park (700 E. Ocean View Ave.) and Ocean View Beach Park (100 W. Ocean View Ave.) from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 4 and throughout summer until Monday, September 1 (Labor Day). Sarah Constant Beach Park (300 W. Ocean View Ave.) will not have lifeguards on duty; patrons there swim at their own risk. Lifeguards will patrol all beaches using ATVs during duty hours. Beachgoers are encouraged to bring trash bags with their gear and leave bagged trash at any of the more than 100 waste receptacles along the beachfront.
